The perfect pizza doesn’t exis—-
Those were the exact words that came out of my mouth when I finally got a text back from Mark’s Pizza.
They were sold out.
I had been texting since 1:30 and didn’t get a reply until 6:30.
Let me back this truck up a bit so you’ll understand.
Shortly after moving into West Rouge (September 2019) I heard about Mark’s Pizza from a neighbour who couldn’t say enough about how good it is.
I was told how most of the ingredients are locally sourced, some organic, and only the best imported from specific areas.
“Really?” I thought to myself. “It’s just pizza.”
The way in which you have to order your pizza was really the intriguing part to me. The menu was only released once a week and you had to text it or order from their website.
This was beginning to sound like hyperbole at this point.
We decided that in the next couple of weeks we would try it.
I remember it was an overcast and lazy Saturday in October. We had just finished cleaning up after lunch when we decided neither of us wanted to cook dinner. A perfect time to try Mark’s Pizzas.
I texted the number with my order of one peperoni and one spinach and ricotta.
2:30, I double checked the number and placed my order again.
Rinse and repeat until 6:30 when I finally got a response of “Sorry. We are sold out tonight.”
How the hell does a pizza place sell out?
“Pretentious asshole.” I thought to myself steaming mad by being put off for so long even though I had been ordering since early afternoon.
To make a long story short, after reading more about Mark’s Pizzas on the community Facebook group, I realized that orders had to be placed litterally a week in advance because Mark uses only quality ingredients and doesn’t let quality suffer over quantity.
When we finally had the chance to try the pizza, it was well worth the wait.
I’ve had pizza in Rome, Milan, Sienna, New York and Chicago.
With out a doubt, Mark’s Pizza can go head to head with any of the great pizzas I’ve had.
It’s made us realize even more how crap most other pizza places are.
We are now pretentious assholes ourselves and only order pizza from Mark’s.
And, because it isn’t cheap (a cheese pizza is $30), ordering a pizza is truly an occasion and a treat. Not just a convenient fast food.
